Death Registration

You can register a death occurring in Scotland at any Registrar's office in Scotland. The death must be registered within 8 days of the death occurring. In Angus there are 3 registration offices (Arbroath, Forfar and Montrose). To register a death you must first make an appointment by calling your preferred office.

Arbroath – Telephone 01241-873752
Monday to Friday – 9.00 a.m. to 4.40 p.m.

Forfar- Telephone 01307-464973
Monday to Friday – 10.00 a.m. to 4.40 p.m.

Montrose – Telephone 01674-672351
Monday to Friday – 9.00 a.m. to 4.40 p.m.

Many death registration offices are now able to offer informants of death the Tell Us Once service.

This means they can collect the relevant information about the deceased person to share with government and council departments (including DWP, DVLA, Passport Office, Council Tax, Social Work and Housing) who need to be informed of the death. This means that the informant only has to give the information once and it is disseminated to those that have to know without the need for the informant to tell each separately.

When you call for an appointment you will be told about this service and advised of the additional information you need to bring along to your appointment. You can however, choose to use the telephone service available through the DWP at a later time and the necessary contact details will be given to you by the registrar.
