Death Registration

You can register a death occurring in Scotland through any Registration office in Scotland. The death must be registered within 8 days of the death occurring. In Angus there are 3 registration offices (Arbroath, Forfar and Montrose). These offices operate by appointment only.  Most deaths are registered over the phone nowadays, however, if you would prefer an in-person appointment this can still be arranged.

When you know the Medical Certificate of Cause of Death (MCCD) has been issued by the medical practitioner you should visit www.angus.gov.uk and choose the option "what to do when someone has died".  Select "Register a death", this will explain how to make an appointment and what information you will need to provide to register a death.

Tell Us Once Service - when someone has died, the registration office can help you tell those people who need to know.  By using this service, government and council departments will be notified of the death to save you having to contact each separately

If you are having any difficulty in dealing with the registration of a death, please contact the Angus ACCESSline on 03452 777 778.
